My thoughts on the draft Policing and Crime Bill which proposes extending police powers over people in mental health crisis into people’s homes.

What can you do?
  • Write to your MP (they’re the people who vote on new laws) to tell them “No!” to extending police powers over people in mental health crisis: it’s health, not crime.

    Yes I agree with this. Very wrong.

    Reasons why someone’s home might not be safe in my opinion:
    – Abusive relatives
    – Harder to keep people away from harmful objects (than in a s136 suite)
    – The person may be embarrassed to be having a crisis in their own home
    – Will the police stay with them in the home, or just pretend they’re safe their alone?
